Introduction

On the 1st of September 2006, the United Kingdom moved over to new legislation surrounding the storage and use of human tissue from the living and deceased for health related purposes and public display. This legislation was introduced as the Human Tissue Act 2004 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; the devolution of health to the Scottish Parliament resulted in a broadly similar Act being introduced as the Human Tissue (Scotland) Act 2006.

The following pages introduce the main points of these Acts and serve as points of reference and further study.
