UK Transplant UK Transplant (UKT) exists as a directorate of the special health authority NHS Blood and Transplant. Among its’ many responsibilities UKT manages the UK wide National Transplant Database; this database details patients who have received or are waiting for a transplant. UK Transplant also look after the National Organ Donor Register where details of those agreeing to donate after their death are held. UK Transplant are heavily involved in raising awareness of donation and improving organ donation rates through publicity and by funding initiatives throughout the wider NHS. Transplant Coordinators are often situated within a local NHS authority though as a national service they are also professionally responsible to UK Transplant through the UKT Regional Management structure; clinical and professional guidance is available through the regional managers.
